Reason #1:
I am a bad blogger because I am inherently an editor. Since my first two posts several months ago, I have probably written a dozen posts and deleted them because I edited them down to the point that my original point was unrecognizable and it didn’t seem worth posting. (I’ll get to that in a second.)
Soultion #1
Everything on a blog does not have to be perfect. Most often, for me at least, blogging is thinking out loud. Occasionally I may say something stupid. I will definitely throw out ideas that are undeveloped, and that is okay. The process of thinking is important. It is okay for other people to see the process.
Reason #2
I am a bad blogger because I think a lot of my ideas are stupid. Sometimes I feel like I have an ongoing argument in my head with myself. I think if anyone could hear that argument, they would probably think I was crazy. I don’t want people to think I am crazy, so I do not want to open a window into the argument for everybody to see.
Solution #2
Maybe Josh Grider says it best.
They’re bound to be crazy, just make sure they’re crazy like you.
Reason #3
I am a bad blogger because I am, in general, a big fan of the slippery slope. It is pretty easy easy for me to convince myself that something I say in a blog will get me fired, ruin my marriage, and pretty much end life on earth as we know it. It could happen…right?
Solution #3
There are always stops along the slippery slope. Might I say something in a blog that offends someone because it is wrong? Sure, I will apologize, admit my mistake, and move on. Might I say something in a blog that offends someone because they are wrong? Sure, I will quickly point out there flaws and publicly ridicule them for it. (Not really) I would hope after some discussion all parties involved would see things more clearly.
I guess that brings me down to what I see as the point of this blog, and something i need to remind myself of constantly. It is said that when CS Lewis and Tolkien would meet, which they did on a regular basis, they would begin conversation with this question: “What has become more clear to you since we last met?” What a great way to look at life. I want this blog to be a place where things can become more clear for me, and hopefully for anyone who actually reads it too.
Here’s to being a better blogger and never deleting a blog post again, no matter how horrific I think it is.
