Well for any of you out there connected with LCCS, you know that there have been lots of changes over the past few months. Namely, we have a new Head of School and a new Head of Upper School. After having a few weeks to get to know the men who now occupy these positions, I am so excited for the future of LCCS and what God has in store fos this place.
I wanted to share one more change at LCCS with you all. I have a new title this year. I am now the Director of Innovation. (Sounds fancy, right?) Basically this change is driven by what has really been a shift in my own thinking. As Director of Educational Technology (my previous title) my focus was on technology and the amazing benefits it has in the classroom. I firmly believe that the effective use of technology in the classroom is a means to innovation. But it is not the only means. This new position allows me to expand my focus.
My role will remain essentially the same. It is still my job to support teachers in the effective use of technology in the classroom. But I get to expand that a little bit this year. I get to support teachers in the use of effective, innovative practices in the classroom. Sometimes that will mean usign technology, sometimes it will not. The biggest benefit I see is that this change helps me to focus on a teacher’s strengths and build those. I work with some truly amazing teachers. They are not all Tech Gurus. That certainly doesn’t make them a bad teacher, nor does it mean they are an “old-school” teacher. I am so excited for the opportunity to help teachers explore innovative practices that they are passionate about.
That all being said, that does not mean we are putting technology on the back burner. We will continue to work at being leaders in the realm of educational technology. We have invested a great deal in technology. We have asked our parents to invest a great deal in technology and they have responded in amazing ways. Technology is certainly not going away in the world that our students will step into. We will continue to be a technologically forward thinking school. This change just helps to ensure that we remain a forward thinking school in other areas as well.
In all honesty, it is a part of who we are at LCCS. From the very beginning of the school, God has called us to be innovators. In more ways than I can count, we have remained faithful to that call, including starting this whole 1:1 technology thing way back in 2012. I count it a blessing and a privilege to get to be a part of that call that God has placed on this place.
